Friday Nite Live will heat up

KEYSER, W.Va. - Keyser's first Friday Nite Live for 2008 promises to be a spicy evening as chili chefs from around the area gather for the city's second chili cook-off.

More than 14 individuals and/or businesses have signed up to cook up their best efforts Friday, according to event coordinator Dave Sowers.

Sowers, who started Friday Nite Live last year, announced last month that the program would be revived for the three remaining Fridays in August.

"Main Street will be blocked off from Center Street to Armstrong, and we'll have two bands each Friday," he said.

Local groups Take Two and Absent Minded are scheduled to perform this Friday, which has been designated as "Welcome Back Nite" for Potomac State College students.

Participants in the chili cook-off, which will be held from 5:30 to 10 p.m., will be eligible for two awards - one from the judges and a people's choice.

Those entries currently signed up for the cook-off include:

* The Royal Restaurant, which will defend its title from last year.

* Ground Hog Chili

* Martie's Hot Dog Stand's Top Gun Chili

* Jo Jo's Spice Girls Chili

* Not Your Mama's Chili by Troy and Keith

* Loose Goose Chili

* Rev. Trevor's Burn Your Soul Chili

* Stray Cat Wing Shack's Nacho Ordinary Chili

* Chili Off the Top by Denise the Barber

* Elevator Car Cafe Chili by Russell Delozier

* Gianni's Chili

* Railsyde's Sweet Baby Joe Ray's Chili

* Leon and Paula's Jazzy USMC Chili

* Roadie's Chili

The bands 33 1/3 and 40 West will play at the Aug. 22 Friday Nite Live, and Rick Krauss and Stack O' Blues will perform Aug. 29.

Both those nights will be designated as "Bike Nites."
