FSU alums establish scholarship in memory of their daughter

FROSTBURG - A scholarship for Garrett County residents who are Frostburg State University students majoring in special education and elementary education and plan to teach in Maryland has been established by two FSU alumni.

Don and Anne Forrester of Mountain Lake Park, who graduated from FSU in 1967, named the Shannon Anne Forrester Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of their beloved daughter.

"As elementary education graduates of Frostburg, we wanted to establish a scholarship to support teacher education programs at Frostburg," the Forresters explained. "Having spent our entire careers in education, we understand the importance of continuing to prepare highly qualified educators for the Maryland public school systems."

Scholarship applicants must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 and a declared intent to teach two years in the state of Maryland.

Shannon was a special-needs student who attended school in Prince George's County.

The Forresters said that Shannon received an excellent education in the schools she attended and that each graduate who benefits from the scholarship's support will help honor Shannon's memory.
