Hardy golf tourney set for Sept. 20

MOOREFIELD — The Hardy County Community Foundation invites golfers to the Spirit of Hardy County Golf Tournament on Sept. 20 at the Valley View golf course in Moorefield.

The tournament is being held as part of the Foundation’s celebration of charitable giving and volunteerism in Hardy County. This year’s celebration will honor the first Spirit of Hardy County honoree, Mrs. Virginia Vance.

Golfers who participate will win the satisfaction of helping a charitable organization because the proceeds from this tournament will benefit the Foundation’s unrestricted endowment fund, which will be used to support charitable causes in Hardy County, as well as a field of interest fund chosen by Vance.

Shotgun start time is 7:45 a.m. The registration fee of $250 for a team of four includes the greens fee, a cart, a picnic lunch when players finish their rounds of play and beverages throughout the day.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third low score foursome. First place will receive $750, second place, $500 and third place, $250. Other prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin.

For those who do not golf, there are other ways to support this event, including participation in the luncheon ceremony. Tickets are available for $25 per person. Team and lunch registration deadline is Sept. 12.

In addition to the golf tournament, a special raffle drawing will be held during the Spirit of Hardy County luncheon ceremony. Anyone can purchase a chance to win a Golden Spike Commemorative lever action repeating Carbine 30-30 Winchester and other prizes. While the drawing will take place during the luncheon, it is not necessary to be present to win. Each chance is $15. Only 108 chances will be sold.

The Hardy County Community Foundation extended a special thanks to the Spirit of Hardy County Legacy sponsors, Summit Community Bank, Mike Ross Incorporated and Hahn Medical Associates.

The Hardy County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation and was founded in late 2007 to build local, permanent endowment to generate annual charitable grants and scholarships perpetually.

Community foundations number more than 700 across America with 26 in West Virginia and focus entirely on working with local individuals to build local assets to meet local needs.

For more information and to register for the tournament or lunch, to purchase a chance for the raffle drawing, or to inquire about other sponsor options, call Tom Widder at 530-0257.
