Under contract from SHA, city firm repaving Coney’s Douglas Avenue

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

LONACONING — Douglas Avenue, which is also state Route 657, will be closed weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for about a week beginning Monday while the State Highway Administration has it resurfaced for two miles to the Garrett County line, according to agency spokesman David Buck.

“The roadway is too narrow for us to work it and continue to allow one-lane traffic,” Buck said, adding that there will be a signed detour.

Buck said a vehicle traveling west on the road from Lonaconing would take Route 935 (Lower Georges Creek Road) to Bartlett Run Road to Michael Road to Russell Road to Westernport Road to Swamp Road and back to 657.

“We only detour onto county roads with the approval of the county officials, which we have in this situation,” Buck said.

SHA awarded the contract to IA Construction of Cumberland. For more information, call (301) 729-8400.
