Hoedown tickets remain on sale
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Tickets remain for Saturday’s 16th annual Hoedown sponsored by the Fort Ashby Lions Club.
The event, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Mineral County Fairgrounds, features an elimination drawing for a $1,000 grand prize and also a barbecue buffet dinner for two.
Karaoke music will be provided in addition to three $100 cash prizes drawn throughout the evening.

City street work under way
CUMBERLAND — Street improvements are taking place on Frederick Street between Mechanic and Centre streets and on Bedford and Baltimore streets.
The Cumberland Engineering Department and Belt Paving ask the public to be alert for changes in traffic patterns and possible street closings and detours. Questions or concerns should be directed to the engineering department at (301) 759-6600.
Allegany Band to host competition
CUMBERLAND — The Allegany High School Marching Band took first place at the Bulldog Spectacular held over the weekend in Martinsburg, W.Va. The band scored an 80.90 and won the Best Music and Best Marching and Maneuvering awards for Group III. The Allegany score was the highest among the 15 competing bands.
On Saturday, Allegany will host the 13th annual Preview of Champions marching band competition at Greenway Avenue Stadium at 5:20 p.m. The competition will include Group I — Northern Garrett and Southern Garrett; Group II — Mountain Ridge and Keyser; Group III — Fort Hill, North Hagerstown, Musselman, Hedgesville and Fairmont; and Group IV — Williamsport, South Hagerstown, Martinsburg and Boonsboro.
The order the bands will perform is Group II, Group IV, Group I and Group III. Allegany will perform in exhibition at the end of the show.
The awards presentation will begin at 9:20 p.m.
