Mineral officials solicit designs for county logo

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Commission has announced a County Insignia Contest.

“A standardized county insignia would be one more way for us to show pride in our county,” commission president Janice LaRue said in a recent staff meeting.

“This is just one more step in not only improving the way we see ourselves, but also in the way other people see us.

“It is important for Mineral County visitors and residents to recognize our employees and recognize the cohesive efforts we are undertaking to improve Mineral County. Whether it’s on our stationery or being worn on the uniform of a compliance officer, maintenance or health official, a standardized insignia will help improve Mineral County’s identity and visibility.”

The commissioners would like the seal to reflect both the professional and historical perspective of the county’s past, present and future.

Mineral County schools have been asked to advertise the contest, with the hope that it may spark positive ideas from young aspiring artists.

The contest is open to anyone who can submit a clean sketch or proposal, preferably in color.

Designs should include the artist’s name and contact information.

Entries will be accepted through Oct. 15 by the Mineral County Commission, 150 Armstrong St., Keyser, WV 26726.

The commission will re-ceive selection recommendations from a committee of employees prior to Nov. 1.

The winning designer will receive a $100 savings bond, with a first runner-up receiving a $50 bond and a second runner-up a $25 bond.

All entries become the sole property of the Mineral County Commission.

The commission also reserves the right to select an alternative to submissions received or to choose a design incorporating one or more aspects from various submissions.
