Eastern sets courses
MOOREFIELD — A variety of courses have been scheduled by Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College. They include:
Recent graduates and other job-seekers can improve their resume tools and interviewing skills in two Petersburg workshops offered through Community Connections: “Resume Writing,” and “Interviewing Techniques & Tips.”
Space is limited for both workshops. To register, and for more information, call Lacey Ball at 434-8000, or toll free: (877) 982-2322.
“Resume Writing” will meet Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Eastern’s access center at the South Branch Career and Technical Center. “Interviewing Techniques & Tips” will meet Oct. 29, also from 6 to 8 p.m., also at Eastern’s Petersburg access center.
In “Resume Writing,” John Holmes, a Career Development Consultant with RESA VIII, will use a PowerPoint presentation to “go over some tools necessary to create a quality resume,” he said. And he invites participants who already have a current résumé to bring it along, “because this workshop will show them how to enhance what they might already have.”
Holmes will discuss different styles and formats for résumés, and how to use the document to focus an employer on one’s specific past accomplishments. “Because that’s what hiring managers like to see,” he said.
Along with resumes, the workshop will explore how to write effective cover letters and professional thank-you notes. “And I’ll have hand-outs,” Holmes said, “so there will be plenty of information for students to take home with them.”
“Interviewing Techniques & Tips” will explore the top 10 questions interviewers like to ask, and how to give effective answers. Holmes will also discuss how to prepare for the different types of interviews job-seekers might encounter.
