Grantsville motorcyclist dies in Hampshire crash

ROMNEY, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police are trying to determine what caused a motorcycle accident in Hampshire County Sunday afternoon that took the life of a Garrett County resident.

Kenneth R. Durst Jr., 44, of Grantsville, was traveling on Grassy Lick Road near U.S. Route 50 east of Romney just before 2 p.m. when his motorcycle left the roadway, police said. The motorcycle hit an embankment before coming to a stop.

The cause of the accident was not known. Investigators were going to take a closer look at the motorcycle on Monday. Air Care helicopter was called in from Winchester, Va., but was not required to land at the scene. The victim was transported by Lambert’s Ambulance Service to Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney.

Units from Romney Rescue Squad and Romney Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
