Cumberland Times-News
Editor’s note: Donna Kuhn submitted this announcement for her candidacy.
An energetic candidate with a fresh, new approach to getting things done for the people of the 48th District is running for the House of Delegates. Her name is Donna Brake Kuhn. A lifelong resident of Grant County, she intends to vigorously address the needs of all constituents in her district and the Mountain State.
According to Kuhn, “When things become stagnant, a leader is needed to bring about change.” Kuhn believes her 35 years in education, and more specifically, her position with RESA VIII Safe & Drug Free Schools for the past 20 years, has developed her leadership skills. She has worked with state and federal programs acquiring knowledge in problem awareness, planning and budgets. She has the innate ability to listen and to get correct information to people as a method of resolving, or more importantly, preventing problem issues that confront individuals and society as a whole.
Kuhn said, “I have done trainings and programs at the school, county, regional and state levels and my experience has proven that networking, collaboration and being a team player can result in positive change. I feel my experiences qualify me to work in the best interest of all individuals in private and public sectors within the district that I would represent.”
Kuhn has broadened her prevention efforts beyond the schools to include the community. She has worked with the Governor’s Safe and Drug Free Community programs to encourage healthy lifestyles, and she feels that parents and community are all role models for our youth.
Kuhn is known throughout the state as being a strong advocate of health issues with her main focus on prevention of drugs, alcohol and tobacco usage. She feels that health and education go hand in hand. She currently coordinates the Raze tobacco prevention program. In all of her endeavors, she has proven to be an individual who takes charge, committing herself to accomplishing the mission.
Kuhn possesses the intelligence and common sense to understand and interpret legislation and to rework existing legislation. She will, no doubt, burn the midnight oil during the regular and special sessions while others have called it a day. Already familiar with people in government at state and local levels, she is well respected by all she comes in contact with. Donna has spent time at legislative sessions with students and teachers. This will prove to be a great asset when she is elected. Donna has never met a stranger and goes above and beyond what most ordinary people would do.
A 1969 Petersburg High School graduate, she has a bachelor of arts in elementary education from Shepherd University and master of arts in counselor education from James Madison University. A single mom and grandmother, Donna managed to see that her own two sons, Jonathan and Tyler Kuhn, received degrees at West Virginia University, sacrificing and doing without material things herself. She is a firm believer in quality educational opportunities for all.
Kuhn’s community involvement includes helping with the Little League, PHS sports, 4-H, Rolling Acres Jubilee, Burlington Apple Harvest and is a member of the Petersburg Fire Department Auxiliary.
A vote for Donna Brake Kuhn for the House of Delegates to represent the citizens of Mineral, Grant and Pendleton counties will be a vote you definitely will not regret.
She welcomes the opportunity to speak to groups and discuss issues. She can be contacted at djkwv@hotmail. com. Vote for Kuhn so she can work for you.
