Local artist Dennis Sherald talks about his mural, "Celebrate Virginia Avenue," Thursday evening during the dedication of the 22 feet by 25 feet painting at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Industrial Boulevard in Cumberland.

The idea behind the work is to celebrate the city's future, the artist said.

Funding for the project came from the city of Cumberland, Maryland State Arts Council, South Cumberland Business and Civic Association and Equotient Inc.
