CUMBERLAND — Carroll County resident J. Casey Clark is the lone Democrat so far to announce candidacy for the 6th Congressional District currently held by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett.
Clark, of Hampstead, worked primarily in television news and won seven Emmy Awards, and one Peabody — television’s version of the Pulitzer Prize — before joining the family’s international manufacturing business.
Bartlett, 83, a Republican from Frederick, filed for a 10th consecutive term in the 2010 election in early July.
Locally, Frostburg resident Don Raley, a Republican, has filed to run for Allegany County Sheriff versus incumbent David Goad, a Democrat.
Raley is no newcomer to politics but has yet to win an election. He lost the 2006 general election to Goad, who has yet to file for a fifth term.
LaVale resident Kevin Shaffer has filed to run against fellow Democrat and incumbent Kevin Kelly in the House of Delegates District 1B.
Republicans Bill Valentine, of Little Orleans, and Thomas D. “Dave” McNemar Jr., of Cumberland, both have filed for the office of Allegany County commissioner.
Candidates have until 9 p.m. on July 6, 2010 to file for local or statewide office.
The primary election is Sept. 14. Early voting is scheduled from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9 for. For the Nov. 2 general election, early voting begins Oct. 22 and ends Oct. 28.
