Water line testing Tuesday

WESTERNPORT — The Westernport Water Department will be testing the transmission line to the town of Luke on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be the possibility of periods of low water pressure and/or no water during this period.

The testing will affect the residents of the 100 block of Spruce Street and the immediate area.

The testing is necessary because Westernport will be supplying the residents of Luke with drinking water during the Luke Mill outage of Oct. 26-31.

FSU sends supplies to troops

FROSTBURG — Over the past two months, the students, staff and faculty of Frostburg State University have donated more than 450 pounds of supplies to soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan through the program “Adopt a Platoon.”

The program, an initiative of the Maryland State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America, has been established at FSU by Laura Williams, registered nurse at the Brady Health Center. Supplies have included all-season greeting cards, toiletries, playing cards and thank-you notes.

Each soldier will be given different supplies based on their request or need, delivered to them by way of the VVA.

For more information or to make a donation, contact Williams at (301) 687-3018 or e-mail liwilliams@frostburg.edu.

The program is free of charge; however, pre-registration for open house is encouraged.
