Flintstone Elementary School students, from left, Dillon Slider, Victoria Witt, Ethan Souders and Jeremy Joe prepare to cast their ballots during a mock presidential election held Thursday at the school. Third-graders were introduced to a mini-unit on the election as part of the social studies curriculum, and they discussed both similarities and differences between the two candidates, Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama. The students learned that voting is not only a right but also a responsibility. The classes created vote posters and reminded everyone at school to cast a ballot. All votes were tallied at the end of the school day with McCain winning, 153-81.
