KEYSER, W.Va. — Potomac State College of West Virginia University has honored numerous students with their Character Counts! program. Character Counts! is an outgrowth of The Joseph & Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics.

A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people make principled decisions in order that they might live with greater integrity, the program is based on six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. The six pillars of character serve as ethical values to guide our choices; improve the quality of our decision, our characters and our lives.

Those who were honored this fall include August, Renee Conneway in August Samantha Yanuck for September, both for responsibility.

• Conneway is a sophomore horticulture major at the college who plans to own and run her own greenhouse. She is vice president of the Student Government Association, vice president of Common Ground, president of the Potomac State College Relay for Life Club and a member of Circle K.

Conneway, a graduate of Hampshire High School, is employed as a grounds supervisor at the Capon Springs and Farms. She is the daughter of Russell and Julie Conneway of Capon Bridge.

• Yanuck is a sophomore majoring in business administration, who plans to graduate with an MBA specializing in finance and real estate. She is president of the Student Government Association, vice president of the Student Anti-Genocide Coalition club, a member of the Catamount Activities Board, Campus and Communities Ministry, the Connections Committee and the Parking Issues Resolution Team. She works as a resident assistant in University Place and as a clerical assistant for Student Support Services.

Yanuck is from Mount Pleasant, Pa., where she is active in the Acolyte a Transfiguration of our Lord Polish National Catholic Church. She is also an Avon representative. Yanuck graduated from Connellsville Area High School. Her parents are Lori and David Yanuck.
