Frankfort blanks Petersburg

Falcons play Keyser tonight for volleyball section title

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Saydi Whiteman had a match-high 19 service points and Aliesha Porter led the attack with 13 kills as Frankfort swept Petersburg in the Class AA, Region II, Section 2 volleyball semifinals Wednesday evening.

The 25-11, 25-8, 25-9 win moves Frankfort into tonight’s championship match against Keyser, which beat Berkeley Springs in the other sectional semifinal. Tonight’s championship match will be at Frankfort and starts at 6 p.m.

Whiteman finished with 19 points, nine aces and six kills, and Porter had 13 kills, nine digs and five points.

Morghan Snyder dished out 25 assists, Maddie Shambaugh had 21 digs and eight points, Taylor Douthitt 10 points and five aces, and Katie Bush eight kills for the Falcons.

The winner of tonight’s match will be the sectional champion, but both Frankfort and Keyser will advance to Saturday’s Region II tournament.

The Region II tournament, which features the champions and runners-up from both sections, will be hosted by two-time defending champion Frankfort. Semifinals begin at 10 a.m.

The Section 1 champion will play the Section 2 runner-up, and the Section 1 runner-up will face the Section 2 champion in the semifinals.

The region championship match will follow.



Southern 3, Allegany 0

OAKLAND — Alicia King and Anna Keefer paced the Southern Rams to a 3-0 victory in the Maryland Class 1A West Region first round volleyball playoffs Wednesday night at Southern High School.

The Rams (5-10) advance to play at Fort Hill Monday evening after sweeping the Campers 25-22, 25-20 and 25-19.

King led Southern with 16 points and 5 aces. Keefer had 10 assists and 6 kills. Alycia Horner scored 11 service points, 10 assists and 4 kills, and April Sisler added 20 digs.

Kelsey Carroll had 3 aces, 6 kills and 8 assists to lead Allegany. Kelly Baker added 3 kills and 4 blocks, and Amber Beckman had an ace, kill, block and 10 digs.
