H1N1 clinic set for children under 3

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Health Department will hold an H1N1 vaccination clinic for children 6 months to 35 months old by appointment at its Willowbrook Office Complex on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling (301) 759-5055 on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. until all available slots are filled.

The vaccine for this age group is preservative-free and comes in premeasured syringes. The dosage amount for children under 3 years old differs from that for older children, so these syringes can only be used for the specified age group.



Garrett receives block grant funding

CUMBERLAND — Garrett County projects are among the Community Development Block Grants awarded in Western Maryland that were announced by Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Raymond Skinner in the latest round of funding.

Garrett County is receiving $125,000 to continue its Partners After School Program, which provides supervised care to 300 children at six sites.

The town of Friendsville was awarded $88,500 to construct a pedestrian crossing bridge adjacent to a vehicular bridge over Bear Creek that leads to the Town Park, Senior Center and Head Start Center.

The town of Kitzmiller will use its $58,000 to obtain and demolish two blighted properties that pose a public safety threat.



Westernport trash pickup to remain same

WESTERNPORT — Trash pickup will remain the same for the week of Nov. 9 even though the town of Westernport will celebrate Veterans Day, Nov. 11, with a holiday.
