Free help to quit smoking

Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — The Great American Smokeout, a national recognition day held the third Thursday of every November, gives Marylanders an opportunity to take advantage of a free offer, and to gear up for a smoke-free environment, according to the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Nicotine replacement products are available by calling the Maryland Tobacco Quitline at (800) QUITNOW. The program provides up to a four-week supply of nicotine patches or gum to tobacco users who are age 18 and over and meet basic health requirements.

To be eligible, callers must register for cessation services when talking with a Quitline coach.

More information about the Quitline and its services is available at www.smokingstopshere.com. Maryland residents can learn more about the state’s smoke-free plans by clicking on Clean Indoor Air Act of 2007 at www.dhmh.state.md.us.
