Tree trimming will disrupt traffic

CUMBERLAND — The Asplundh Tree Expert Co. will work at the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Williams Street on Tuesday between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., weather permitting.

The traffic signal will be set to flashing lights and traffic will be directed by flagmen. The Cumberland Engineering Department is asking drivers to find an alternate route during that time so that utility work can be completed in a timely manner with little disruption to traffic.

Questions may be directed to (301) 759-6600.

Mountain Ridge band in parade

FROSTBURG — The Mountain Ridge High School marching band, under the direction of David Kauffman, will perform in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia. The 50-member band was the smallest of the bands selected to perform in the parade.

The group also participated in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago in 2007.

The students have been holding fundraisers to help offset the cost of the trip, which will also include a visit to New York City.

Commission letter posted online

CUMBERLAND — A copy of the letter that the Allegany County commissioners wrote to Sen. George Edwards requesting the Allegany County legislative delegation not to introduce referendum legislation related to the County Bureau of Police is posted on the Times-News Web site.

Log on to www.times-news.com and click on the headline “Commissioners ask delegation not to draft referendum bill” in the Local News category. A link to the letter will appear in the story.
