H1N1 vaccine to be available next week

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Health Department will provide school outreach H1N1 influenza vaccine clinics next week.

• Monday, 8:30 am. to 2 p.m., Fountain Primary.

• Wednesday, 12:30 to 3 p.m., Keyser High.

• Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m, Frankfort High, Frankfort Middle and Keyser Alternative School.

An H1N1 clinic will be provided by appointment only Dec. 7 for people in the priority groups, which include 6 months to 24 years old; health care workers; pregnant women; direct care givers for children younger than 6 months; and people 25 to 64 who have underlying health conditions.

Mineral tax exemption deadline nears

KEYSER, W.Va. — Tuesday is the last day to apply for homestead or disability exemption for tax year 2010, according to Mineral County Assessor Rose Ann Maine.

Homestead exemption applicants must be 65 years old by June 30, 2010, and must be a resident of West Virginia for at least two tax years. The exemptions are for owner-occupied residences only and cover the first $20,000 of the assessed value of the residence.

Disability applicants must have their award papers when they apply and be 100 percent disabled as of July 1, 2009.

School parents can be nominated

CUMBERLAND — Comcast, in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, is asking for nominations for the third annual Parent Involvement Matters Awards program created to honor parents across the state for their dedication and contributions to public education in the areas of communication, volunteering, learning, decision-making and community collaboration.

Nominees must be parents or legal guardians of children who attend a Maryland public school and cannot be employees of Comcast, MSDE or the Maryland public school system.

Previous Allegany County recipients include Erin DeLong of Allegany High School and Stephanie Turbin of Flintstone Elementary School. Nomination forms can be found at www.MarylandPublicSchools.org/pima and must be postmarked by Jan. 20.
