Local doctor reportedly takes own life

CUMBERLAND — Cumberland Police report that Dr. Robert Damean Cendo, 59, died Saturday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Officers were alerted to an apparent suicide a little after 6 a.m. and responded to a residence in the 100 block of Spruce Street where they found Cendo, according to a press release issued about 2 p.m.

Investigators from the C3I Unit also responded to investigate.

There is no indication of foul play, authorities said.

Cendo was charged by authorities in late May with two counts of solicitation for prostitution and one count of perverted practice.

The charges stemmed from a two-month investigation into allegations that Cendo had been writing prescriptions for narcotic pain killers to a confidential female informant in ex-change for sexual favors.
