WASHINGTON — The Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company will receive $69,900 in federal funding, according to an announcement Wednesday by Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin.
The department will use the funds to purchase safety equipment and strengthen professional training and wellness programs.
“West Virginia’s firefighters are quick to protect our families and neighbors no matter the emergency,” said Rockefeller.
“Our first responders are on the front lines of keeping their communities safe every day, and we want to make sure they’re fully prepared and equipped in their missions,” said Manchin, who worked with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County.
Also sharing part of the $108,000 award are the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department, $8,312; and the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department, $29,811.
The award will help fund professional training and equipment for wellness programs.
