Frostburg officers Atkinson, Tummino both named as Firefighter of the Year

FINZEL —  Frostburg Fire Chief Richard Atkinson Jr. and President Gary Tummino were both named Firefighter of the Year during the volunteer fire department’s 135th an-niversary awards banquet held recently at the Eastern Garrett Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department social hall.

The award winners were decided by the previous three years’ recipients.

The Fire Chief’s Award was given to Deputy Chief Erik Phillips and Capt. Justin Edwards.

Matt McMorran was presented the President’s Award and a Life Member award.

Brothers William “Bill” and Donald “Pete” Davis were given 50-year Length of Service plaques.

They all were presented proclamations from U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, state Sen. George Edwards, Delegate Kevin Kelly and Allegany County Commissioner Michael McKay.

Assistant Chief Jay Hovatter was presented his Life Member award and the same proclamations.

Special department commendations ribbons and plaques were presented to the members of the Price Station Building Committee: chairman, William “Buzz” Davis, Bill Price, Harry Foor, Dayne Lancaster, Ron Dugan, Rich Atkinson, Phil Via, Tummino and Hovatter.

Rich Atkinson was named Top Responder and Price was runner-up.
