KEYSER, W.Va. — City Council will decide today whether to order playground equipment for the West End Park with the $20,000 KaBOOM! grant provided by Dr Pepper Snapple Group.
The transfer of the grant from the South End Park to the West End Park was approved during a council meeting in November.
Shannon Marsh, city administrator, said during a October council meeting that Burke Engineers, an equipment manufacturer, was interested in bidding on the playground project. The bill date for the project was moved to April 24.
The Mineral County Board of Education agreed to offer the city a six-month lease for the South End Park for the installation of new playground equipment but the city declined the offer. Board members said they were hesitant about leasing the land because of uncertainty on how things were going to shift with the building of the new Keyser Primary School.
The community has been working diligently to meet the $10,000 match needed for the KaBOOM! grant.
Also on the agenda for the meeting is a resolution for the Governor’s Community grant program; a budget revision and approval for a police hire and travel for a Certified Floodplain Manager.
The council will meet at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
