CUMBERLAND — The farmers markets will open this year with four locations and 22 vendors approved to sell, according to Jack Miltenberger, co-chairman of the Allegany Mountain Fresh Producers Association.
Seven of the vendors have been with the market since the first day of operation, July 7, 1991. Of the vendors this year, seven are new.
The downtown Cumberland market opens Thursday, the Frostburg market Friday, the Country Club Mall market on June 4 and Canal Place market on June 8. Market hours for the downtown Cumberland, Country Club Mall and Canal Place markets are 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Frostburg market will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Hilda Miltenberger and Jeanette Rinehart will manage the markets.
“As we begin our 23rd year of our market and my 65th year in the business of growing vegetables, I would like to thank our vendors, many of whom have been with us since its beginning for growing quality fruits and vegetables and flowers they bring to the market each week — and, of course, thanks to our loyal customers that make the markets successful,” Miltenberger said.
