CUMBERLAND — Cumberland Police Cpl. Anthony Tringler is the recipient of the Cumberland Police Department Life Saving Award for helping to save the life of a man he found unconscious on the railroad tracks in May.
Tringler also received a commendation from CSX Transportation recognizing his efforts in the May 5 incident.
The corporal was dispatched to the area between Martin’s Food Market and the Amtrak Station for a man lying on the train tracks. Tringler located the man and observed a train approaching. After trying to get the attention of the unconscious man, Tringler made the decision to run onto the tracks and remove him as the train approached.
The was found to be intoxicated and combative, refusing to move. Tringler was able to pull him to safety and held the man to the ground until the train stopped and then moved him away from the area.
Jason Bishop, CSX manager of Community Affairs and Safety, presented Tringler with a plaque commending his actions. Bishop stated, “CSX and the Cumberland Police Department have worked together developing a strong partnership to ensure the safety of our community. Cpl. Tringler’s quick response and courageous actions on May 5th are worthy of recognition.”
