Mineral development group to meet July 8

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Development Authority will hold a work session at 5 p.m. July 8 in the Mineral County Courthouse courtroom. On the agenda for discussion will be the Fort Ashby Business and Technology Park and the shell building.

David Warner and Todd Hooker of the West Virginia Infrastructure Council will be on hand to provide information on the loans that built the park and the building.

The Mineral County commissioners, Janice LaRue, Dr. Richard Lechliter and Jerry Whisner (MCDA board member) have been invited to attend  along with Mike Bland, Mineral County coordinator.

Being discussed will be the costs and sources of revenue for construction of the park and building as well as current financial obligations on the loans that helped build the park and building.

Police gear up for holiday patrols

CUMBERLAND — The Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Cumberland City Police will join forces this Fourth of July holiday and throughout the weekend conducting directed enforcement assignments within Allegany County in an effort to keep the highways safe and to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities.

Additional patrol personnel will be assigned to enforcement details and conducting impaired driving saturation patrols focusing on areas throughout the county.

High visibility patrols and increased enforcement will also be concentrated in and around Cumberland to ensure the safety of motorists and to target drunk drivers.  

Law enforcement agencies across Maryland are asking people to drink responsibly and plan ahead.
