Charges filed in death of Pa. man

Accused allegedly moves body

SOMERSET, Pa. — A Somerset County man has been jailed on abuse of a corpse and other charges for allegedly moving a friend’s corpse out of his apartment and into the dead man’s pickup where it was found Sunday.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 37-year-old Michael Moore of Stoystown Road, Somerset, who was also charged with tampering with evidence, terroristic threats and witness intimidation in connection with the death of 53-year-old Frankie Sass of Friedens.

Toxicology tests are needed to determine the cause of Sass’ death, though Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller said he doesn’t suspect foul play. An autopsy was conducted Monday at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown.

Moore called and later threatened a friend to help him move Sass from Moore’s apartment, police said.

Moore allegedly told the friend Sass was drunk and unconscious, even though Moore’s girlfriend told police Sass was already dead.

Police said Sass was a known drug user who had disappeared in the past.

Police began looking for Sass on Jan. 23. He was discovered deceased in his own vehicle in Somerset borough sometime Sunday.

Moore remained jailed Tuesday in Somerset County on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing before District Judge Ken Johnson on Feb. 5.
