New Germany State Park announces upcoming family-friendly activities

— • July 17:

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Weekly Craft

Participants are invited to join the park naturalist every Thursday to create a nature-inspired craft to take home with them. Cost is $3 per craft. Meet at the Nature Center next to the Lake House.

• July 18:

4 p.m. - Paddle Like a Pro

This weekly activity includes hands-on instruction on basic paddling techniques, followed by free time to explore New Germany Lake by kayak, canoe, or row boat.  Paddle Like a Pro is offered every Friday, weather permitting. Cost is $5 per boat.  Boats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Meet at the Lake House.

2 p.m. - Toad Time

The park naturalist has been caring for some tadpoles that are about to morph into toads! Participants will learn about the life stages of the American toad. Meet at the Nature Center next to the Lake House.

• July 19: 

1 p.m. - Chromatography for Kids

Take a break from the beach for some really cool science! During this hands-on program, participants will learn how to separate combinations of colors or pigments through a process called chromatography. Meet at the Nature Center next to the Lake House.

6:30 - 9:30 p.m. - Old Time Jam

Musicians and listeners of all ages are invited to share and enjoy traditional folk, bluegrass and other traditional Appalachian music. The jam will happen at the Lake House from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.  Admission is free and food and gift items will be available for purchase.

• July 20:

9 a.m. - Morning Paddle

On this peaceful, morning paddle, participants are invited to explore New Germany Lake and discover some of the many species that call the lake their home. The cost is $5 per boat.  Meet at the Nature Center, next to the Lake House.

1 p.m. - Squirrel Hike

During this kid-friendly hike, participants will learn about the different kinds of squirrels that live in the park. The hike will conclude with a craft at the Nature Center.

3 p.m. Weekly Story Hour

During this story hour, kids will discover the wonderful differences between the forest at during the day and the forest at night, in the short story, Forest Night Forest Bright by Jennifer Ward. Meet at the Nature Center, next to the Lake House.
