Education ethics

panel seeks member


CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Board of Education is seeking applications for membership on its ethics panel.

 The five-member panel provides advisory opinions, conducts hearings on ethics complaints, and makes recommendations to the board on matters relating to conflict of interest, financial disclosure and lobbying disclosure. Members are appointed by the board for a five-year term.  

They must be county residents and cannot be a member of the board, subject to the board’s control, employee of the board, employee of a business entity subject to the authority of the board or spouse of a board member.

Application forms are available from the board office at 108 Washington St. or at www.boe.allconet.org under the Community tab and Ethics information.

Paving to begin

in Willowbrook area


CUMBERLAND — Lane closures and flagging operations are scheduled along Willowbrook and Messick roads over the next month due to paving operations, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

Work will begin the evening of July 21 and continue through mid-to-late August, according to the following schedule:  

•  Week of July 21: night work on Willowbrook Road near the Interstate 68 interchange and Western Maryland Health System starting at 6 p.m. July 21 to 6 a.m. July 22, then 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

•  July 29-late August: day work on Messick Road north of Industrial Boulevard between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.

The work is weather-permitting and includes removing the top layer of pavement, patching and paving. Questions may be directed to SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or 800-760-7138.
