— CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland Police officer suffered unknown injuries when his Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser traveled out of control on icy Interstate 68 at the Moose Curve just before 9 a.m. Friday.

The police vehicle hit ice on the roadway and then struck the median wall at about 8:37 a.m., just before another vehicle traveled out of control in the same area four minutes later. A third accident occurred at 9:09 a.m. in the same area while city fire, ambulance and police units handled the first two mishaps.

State Highway Administration personnel were also called to the scene.

Officer Robert Martin, a K-9 handler, was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries.

The drivers of the other two vehicles apparently were not injured.
