Robotics team open house Sunday

ACCIDENT — Garrett County Public Schools’ FIRST Robotic Team, FRC 1629, will demonstrate its robot Feb. 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Garrett Engineering and Robotics Society located at the industrial park in Accident.

The For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology program is de-signed to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.

The open house will be the last chance to see FRC Team 1629’s robot in action before it is transported to various regional competitions. Some 2,550 teams from across the country and around the world have six weeks to design and assemble a 120-pound robot to play on a high-tech game field. Teams have to use motors, batteries and other parts from a kit that is assembled by the FIRST game designers.

FRC Team 1629 will begin its 10th season and is partnered with the Garrett County Public School System, Beitzel Corp., Pillar Innovations LLC, Wilson Supply, Garrett Container Systems, Phenix Technologies, GEARS and Garrett County government.
