Icy road factor in fatal Pa. accident

Teen injured; neither driver wearing seat belt, police say

SOMERSET, Pa. — Icy road conditions factored in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in Somerset County that claimed the life of a Somerset man and injured a 17-year-old Rockwood boy, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

James W. Hahn, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:25 a.m. crash that occurred on Water Level Road in Milford Township, according to Trooper Jeffrey C. Flowers.

The teen, who was not identified, was reportedly taken to Conemaugh Medical Center in Johnstown for treatment of moderate injuries.

Police said the teen was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango northbound on Water Level Road that traveled out of control due to icy conditions.

The SUV then traveled into the southbound lane where it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt operated by Hahn, who was unable to avoid the collision.

Police said neither operator was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Rockwood Volunteer Fire Department.
