Cresaptown girl comes up short in marbles tourney finals

WILDWOOD, N.J. — Briana Brode came into the day tied for first in the girls division but suffered a narrow defeat to Emily Cavacini of Allegheny County, Pa., Thursday in the finals of the National Marbles Tournament.

Brode, 13, of Cresaptown, did finish with the most sticks. She defeated Makynlee Sims of Standing Stone, Tenn., in the semifinals. Nicole Morral, of LaVale, fell to Cavacini in the semifinals.

Cooper Fisher, of Middletown, defeated Luke Gassigan from Frederick in the boys final. Brandon Robinett placed sixth with three wins and nine losses on the day.

Briana’s brother Ricky Brode, a former national champion, defeated former stick champion Paul McKone of Reading, Pa., in the finals of the alumni tournament.
