LAVALE — The Allegany County Republican Central Committee will meet Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at Henny’s Grill and Bar on National Highway.

Food, toy drive

for area children

KEYSER, W.Va. — Veterans for Children will hold a food and toy drive at the Keyser Walmart on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nonperishable food items as well as new unwrapped toys are in great need. The nonprofit, tax-exempt organization distributes toys, food and clothing to needy area families.

Applicants sought

for school board


OAKLAND — The deadline for applicants interested in a vacancy on the Garrett County Board of Education has been extended to Oct. 14.

The county commissioners will appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of Donald Forrester’s term, which will end in  December 2014. Forrester retired effective Sept. 30.

Applicants must reside in Commissioner District I and should submit their letter of interest and credentials to Monty Pagenhardt, county administrator. Questions may be addressed to Pagenhardt at 301-334-8970.
