Employees of the city’s flood control and water departments and Marshall Ruby and Sons remove one of four flood control gate valves at the Mill Race pumping station near Canal Place. Based in Frostburg, Ruby will rebuild the valves that were installed in 1958 as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project. The work is expected to take about a week. The last time they were put into action was in 1996, when major flooding occurred in the area. The flood control department performs regular maintenance on the machinery.
