Fireworks sponsor named
LONACONING — The annual fireworks display in Lonaconing has been funded by the Georges Creek Railway for the second consecutive year, Mayor Jack Coburn announced.
The railway donated $7,500 for the fireworks display that is scheduled for July 3 at the Westmar Middle School athletic field. The rain date for the event is July 5.
Coburn said a fundraiser will be conducted for associated expenses for the event, including signage, porta-potty and rental fee for the athletic field.
There is no admission fee for the event.
Street closed for line work
CUMBERLAND — Liberty Street will be closed from Pershing Street to Harrison Street from Monday at 6 p.m. until Tuesday at 7 a.m., according to the Cumberland Engineering Department on behalf of Columbia Gas of Maryland and its contractor, Northern Pipeline.
This will allow for Northern Pipeline to make service lateral tie-ins in this area, weather permitting.
