LAVALE — The Wald-enbooks at Country Club Mall will shut down as part of parent company Borders’ announcement to close all its stores due to bankruptcy proceedings, according to Jan Beem, mall marketing director.
“We had heard that all of them will be closing by the end of October,” Beem said. “Our leasing department has been aware of these behind-the-scene things for quite some while.”
Beem said the department is working diligently to pursue new leases for the mall.
The recent closure of AMC 6 Theatres was announced last week and a new operator has been identified for the Country Club Mall Cinemas. WPA Theaters will be managing the movie theater in early August and will increase the screen count to eight, according to a news release sent from Pittsburgh.
WPA Theaters is owned by the Harper and Moses families, who have theaters in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The plan is to maintain the same staff and managers who worked at AMC.
“The new operators hope to show movies as quickly as possible,” the news release said. “Their main goal is to make the transition as seamless as possible for the convenience of their customers.”
