KEYSER, W.Va. — So far, about $31,000 has been raised for the Keyser High Athletic Facility, according to Principal Charles Wimer. During the Mineral County Board of Education meeting today, Wimer will provide the board with an itemized list of account donations that have been made since July 1.
The fundraising goal for this year is $105,000. There are 10 specific areas where fundraising will be addressed. For example, there is a line item for $20,000 from state legislators and $9,000 from the Athletic Boosters, according to Wimer.
“We will be talking with state legislators trying to seek $20,000,” said Wimer.
In November, My Bank! First United Bank and Trust presented two checks totaling $8,000 for the complex.
Also during today’s meeting, the principals for Keyser Primary School and Keyser Middle School for the 2013-2014 employment term will be named. A delay in construction, however, could cause a later opening of the new primary school. Mary Racey is currently the principal at Keyser Primary/Middle School.
Mineral County school personnel voted in December to grant existing service personnel and teachers priority on filling positions at the new Keyser Primary School and at the renovated Keyser Middle School.
The board voted in December to close Keyser Pre-K/Head Start and Keyser Primary/Middle School at the end of the 2012-2013 school year barring a delay in construction.
Fifth-grade students from New Creek, Elk Garden and Burlington will be transferred to the renovated Keyser Middle School. Construction on the new $13.5 million primary school, which will house prekindergarten through fourth grade, began June 11.
Other items on the agenda include a discussion on the student fundraising policy and approval of a construction project (modular house) for students enrolled in the carpentry program at Mineral County Technical Center. The project will be sold in the spring of 2014 and the request includes a $25,000 line of credit.
The meeting will take place at 6 p.m in the Board Administrative Office located at 1 Baker Place.
