Career students competing today

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Center for Career and Technical Education will host a regional Skills USA competition today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Student participants will compete in 20 different competitions, three of which will be held off-campus.  

Two of the events will be held at Timbrook’s Collision Repair Center, and the Automotive Service Technology event will be held at Allegany College of Maryland.

Alco counselors plan parent night

CUMBERLAND — Allegany High School’s school counselors will host a parent night for all parents of eighth-grade students at Braddock Middle School on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Allegany’s library.

Topics of discussion during the event will include course selection and high school graduation requirements for the 2013-2014 school year.

Bus full for trip to lobby gun bill

MIDLOTHIAN — No seats remain on the bus sponsored by the Allegany-Garrett Sportsmen’s Association that will travel to Annapolis Wednesday to testify against Senate Bill 281, the legislation that would make certain firearms and accessories illegal in Maryland.

Mike Griffith, vice president of the local organization, requested to be called at 301-707-3138 by anybody who has signed up but discovered they won’t be able to make the trip so that seats can be assigned to those on a waiting list.
