SOMERSET, Pa. — A Berlin man was killed and his passenger injured Thursday when their car struck a van on Lambertsville Road and an embankment before overturning several times, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Dean William Blough, 48, died in the 3:25 p.m. crash that hospitalized Georgiann Ruschak, 49, of Beallsville, Ohio, with major injuries, police said.
Ruschak was taken to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown. Her condition was not available.
Blough was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt northbound at an apparent high rate of speed when the vehicle traveled into the southbound lane and struck a Dodge minivan operated by Lynn Frazier of Central City.
Upon impact, the Blough vehicle struck an embankment, flipped several times, ejected both occupants and came to rest in a field. The occupants were not wearing seat belts when the crash occurred, police said.
Frazier apparently was not injured, police said.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of a state police crash reconstruction team.
Police said Blough was involved in another accident about 10 minutes before the fatal crash on Stutzmantown Road. His vehicle struck the driver’s side of another vehicle and then fled eastbound.
Shanksville and Stoystown volunteer fire departments responded along with Somerset and Boswell ambulances and Medstar helicopter.
