Oakland man fends off attacker armed with broom handle, ax

Upon arresting Friendsville resident, police discover outstanding warrant

FRIENDSVILLE — Maryland State Police report that an Oakland man fended off an attacker who first came at him with a broken broom handle and then an ax in Friendsville Friday afternoon, shortly before they arrived and made an arrest.

Charged with assault is Jason L. Hoff, 33, Friendsville. Hoff also had an outstanding bench warrant from Garrett County. He was jailed without bond.

The incident took place on Fearer Road, which is the location of Hoff’s residence, according to online court records. Attacked, according to police, was Nicholas J. Hepp, 39, a Pysell Crosscut Road resident.
