Flintstone boys face felony charges - 02/27

FLINTSTONE — Two 15-year-old Flintstone boys have been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services for making and detonating improvised explosive devices, known as soda bottle bombs, in the front yard of the family residence.

The incident occurred Monday at about 7:50 p.m. in the 21000 block of National Pike. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources responded to reports of gunfire in the area and located the remains of exploded soda bottles and notified the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

A joint investigation revealed that the boys learned how to make the devices on the Internet. The youths face felony charges of manufacture, possession and distribution of destructive devices. They were released in the custody of their parents pending further legal action.
