FROSTBURG — Mastering gravity better than 27 other competitors, Damon Scheid drove the Hafer Funeral Home car to victory in the 37th Annual Frostburg Elks Derby Day Race on Independence Day.
“There was a real good crowd and the rain skipped around us,” said race director Dennis Wilson, describing the holiday scene on the Mountain City’s Main Street. The race began at noon.
Finishing second in The Blurr was Garrett Williams. Third place went to Lena Maffley driving the car sponsored by Jenkins Collision Center.
“There were no crashes and no injuries,” said James Meyers, chairman of the Derby Day committee. “The people at the starting line ran everything smoothly.”
Finishing fourth was Jarrett Kelly driving the Frog Hollow Maple Camp car.
In fifth was Makayla Alexander in the racer sponsored by Frostburg Carquest.
Sixth place went to Nick Fochtman in the Oakland Elks Club car.
In seventh was Sawyer Jenkins driving for L and T Transmission.
The 2012 race winner was Cross Ritchey driving the Kenney Signs car.
