— CUMBERLAND — A Frederick woman who was renting an apartment locally was arrested on prostitution charges after she allegedly advertised on the Internet and was contacted by an undercover investigator with the C3I Unit.

C3I investigators were alerted to the possibility that Shannon Leigh Wilson, 44, was engaged in prostitution after being advised that she was advertising on the website westernmaryland.backpage. com. Investigators in a covert capacity began communicating online with Wilson and learned that there was enough information to support the allegations.

They arranged a meeting with Wilson at which time she advised an undercover investigator what services she was offering in exchange for payment. After the undercover officer made payment up-front, she was placed under arrest.

Investigators served a search and seizure warrant at the apartment Wilson was renting and recovered additional evidence, including computers, cell phones and photos.

C3I was assisted by the Maryland State Police and Cumberland Police.

Wilson was released on her own recognizance by a district court commissioner.

The investigation is continuing.
