— KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve Superintendent Rob Woy’s retirement effective in June, according to Kevin Watson, board president.

“I’ve been very fortunate to serve as president of the board with him as superintendent for the last three years. He has made my job more enjoyable,” said Watson. “I would love to beg him to stay, but that is selfish of me.”

At a future Mineral County board meeting, Howard M. O’Cull, executive director of the West Virginia School Board Association, will likely be hired to assist in the superintendent search, which may begin in March, according to Watson.

“It’s a big process,” said Watson.

In 2011, Woy, who was a former assistant superintendent, replaced superintendent Skip Hackworth, who retired after 41 years of service.

A call to Woy was not returned by press time.
