Inmate at center of Baltimore jail scandal to enter guilty plea

Associated Press

— BALTIMORE — A Maryland inmate who officials say impregnated multiple guards and ran a jailhouse gang has reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Tavon White will plead guilty to a charge of racketeering conspiracy and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

He was among about two dozen people charged in April in a vast drug-smuggling operation at the downtown Baltimore jail.

A signed copy of the plea agreement shows that White will admit to having been a commander of the Black Guerilla Family, a gang that operated on the streets and inside the jail.

He’ll also admit to having been involved in smuggling drugs and cellphones into the jail and to having impregnated four female guards.

White’s attorney said he’s scheduled to enter the plea Aug. 6.
