State superintendent of schools visit postponed

MCHENRY — The Garrett County Business Before Hours scheduled for today has been canceled due to the recent snowfall, according to the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce.

Maryland Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery will be invited to visit at a later date.

 

Jennings Randolph boat launches to open

ELK GARDEN, W.Va. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open the boat launch alongside Howell Run, just off state Route 46, at Jennings Randolph Lake on Saturday at 8 a.m.

The Corps charges a nominal fee for launching a boat and also offers an annual pass at the park office.

The boat launch on the Maryland shore of Jennings Randolph Lake, managed by the Maryland Park Service, will also open Saturday. The launch is on Mount Zion Road off state Route 135.

For more information, call the Corps park office at 304-355-2346 or Herrington Manor and Swallow Falls State Park Office at 301-334-9180 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opening of both ramps is weather-dependent.

 

City trash collection delayed this week

CUMBERLAND — Advanced Disposal canceled trash collection Monday in the West Side and East Side because of safety concerns due to snow and ice. Trash in these areas will be collected Thursday.

Westernport water work will interrupt service

WESTERNPORT — Water service for Maryland Avenue residents from First Assembly of God Church to Fourth Street in Westernport will be interrupted today at 9 a.m., according to town officials.

Service is expected to be re-stored in two to three hours.
