CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland mayor and City Council are seeking letters of interest from local residents who are willing to serve on the Downtown Development Commission or the Human Relations Commission.
The Human Relations Commission has two vacancies. It is responsible for the elimination of discrimination in all areas of community life through the investigation of complaints, conciliation of disputes and provision of advice to public and private agencies as well as the mayor and city council. Seven members are appointed to three-year terms and the commission meets the fourth Thursday of each month at City Hall.
The DDC seeks to fill one seat in the secondary district area of downtown. The commission oversees the maintenance and operation of the downtown mall.
The 12 members must be property or business owners except for one citizen-at-large member. The secondary district is bounded by the Interstate 68 bridge, Queen City Drive, Bedford Street and the Wills Creek flood protection wall.
Members serve three-year terms and meet the second Thursday of each month at City Hall.
Letters of interest are due by April 5 to the Mayor and City Council, Attn: City Clerk, 57 N. Liberty St., Cumberland, MD 21502, or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
