City man charged with threat of arson

CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland man has been charged with threat of arson following an investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

David W. Duvall, 26, was served an arrest warrant Friday after deputy state fire marshals concluded an investigation.

Duvall, who was charged with one count of threat of arson, was released on his personal recognizance Friday following a bond hearing before a district court commissioner. He is scheduled to appear in a preliminary hearing in district court on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m., according to court documents.

The investigation began when information was reported to authorities that Duvall had made statements in reference to burning his residence in the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Cumberland.

During the investigation, it was also discovered that the utilities had been turned off to the residence and that Duvall had begun to remove personal property.

Investigators found sufficient probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant Friday from the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office.

The arrest was made Friday when Duvall was located in the 11000 block of Creek Road in Cumberland. He was taken into custody without incident.

If convicted, Duvall faces up to 5 years’ imprisonment and/or $5,000 in fines, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Deputy state fire marshals were assisted in the investigation by the Cumberland Fire Department.
