WCI inmate indicted in death of fellow prisoner

CUMBERLAND — A state prison inmate was indicted Wednesday in the September beating death of his cellmate at the maximum-security Western Correctional Institution.

The Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office said 35-year-old Darnell Thompson was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the September killing of 29-year-old Jason Wallace.

Thompson is serving a life sentence for a 1996 murder conviction in Prince George’s County.

Wallace was serving time for robbery and drug convictions in Harford County.

The state Division of Correction says Thompson is now incarcerated at the North Branch Correctional Institution located on U.S. Route 220 at Cresaptown next to the maximum-security WCI prison.
